THE HAND

This is my hand.
This is my hand spread out
spreadeagled on the sheet.
And it is good.

I am amazed,
I had not expected this
That I should find it good
This hand.

I love this shape
So firm, so safe and squarely comforting
It gives me strength.
I am humbled and amazed
That it should give me pride.
It is healing
It is hope
And it is mine!

Is this hand me?
O let it be!
I need this hand to be myself
To show myself
To have myself
To love myself.
