YOUR ART Nita Bernadette |
Born the fifth of nine children in the northern English city of Newcastle opon Tyne. My first medium was wood, serving my apprenticeship as a carpenter. Working in Paris, my brother would carve from exotic and not so exotic woods, creating all sorts of objects, from a chess set to boxes with hidden drawers. What he created from his imagination was brilliant! A feast for the eye! My brother was my main inspiration. I started working in clay, studying portraiture and the figure, mostly realism but working towards more stylization. A sculptor's journey is a wonderful voyage of discovery, every day you stumble on a new technique or composition, and so it was I found Lifecast. I enjoy Lifecast as it complements my figure sculpture and leaves plenty of room for the imagination.
